Colin loves cell phones (as all babies do). He'll put the phone up to his ear and pretend like he's on it. It's adorable... sometimes. He thinks everything is a phone... or he just likes it when we say "Yobosehyo" when he does it. Maybe he likes the praise/attention. Whatever. My favorite is when he sticks the banana in his ear. He looks like his dad. I gave him my old phone to play with. He loved it for the first day. The novelty has worn off and he knows that that phone is not in commission... I don't get it though. I turn my keyguard on and volume off so the buttons don't even beep. Why does he insist on mine? Like the remotes... we gave him two remotes that we no longer use but he wants the ones he can't have.
Sometimes he wants demands my phone while I'm using. This sucks because he'll fervently push the buttons while I'm on the phone, and more often than not, hang up on the person I'm trying to talk to. Lately when I put Colin on the pot to poo, he needs something to do, whether it's the NY Times crossword or just reading the latest bestseller, but today he wanted my phone. I stupidly obliged. I should have known better but I was half asleep for Pete's sake (who's Pete?). As Colin is pushing buttons, calling all sorts of people I don't want to talk to (I forgot to turn activate the keyguard), in one deft move he plunges his hand holding the phone straight down. I yelped and grabbed his hand but when it emerged from between his pudgy little legs, to my dismay, there was no phone. It lay there in a pool of fresh, yellow pee... buttons (and ear/mouth piece) down. I ran to the bathroom to wash the phone in the sink. I knew I'd probably do more damage than good, but how can you not wash a pee-soaked phone?!
So now, if you call me I won't be available to answer because my phone is in the ICU (on my bed) drying off.
bodyparts
Colin has learned a few body parts. Ear, head, nose, eyes, feet, belly button, belly, and of course... penis. Colin's ped cracked me up because she was like, "Did he find his penis yet?" I laughed and said, "Yes" to which she replied, "Once he finds his penis, he's never letting go." hahaha
We now interrupt this broadcast.... baby meltdown in progress... stay tuned for more episodes

Eczema Update #41
Colin's eczema is clearing up very nicely. We just went to the dermatologist and she was pleased with Colin's progress that she changed his treatment plan to a maintenance plan. Yay! The doctor (Schaffer at NYU Medical not Evil!) had said that around 1-1 1/2 years, atopic dermatitis usually clears up... or else, the baby ends up with it through childhood. I thought that it'd be the latter case for Colin because I had eczema all through my childhood and into my twenties. It sucked. Of course, we are not in the clear yet, but Colin's face is doing well. Currently, he's on three days of Protopic (with tons of aquaphor and either mimyx or atopiclair) and one day of my choice between Elicon and Fluticasone. I prefer Elicon right now because he still gets red bumpy patches but his face is nowhere like it was back in February.
Colin's Birthday #1
Colin's birthday was crazy (see photoblog). It was nicer than some of the weddings I've been to. Two big factors in contributing to that were 1) we were upgraded to the largest room even though we requested the middle sized room 2) we dressed up. My MIL bought Colin a 3 piece suit for his party and me a fabulous dress for a graduation gift. So we all decided to play dress up. The next thing you know, the women are in dresses and the men are in suits and ties. And all along, I thought the party would be casual. lol.
Along with the flowers, balloons, ice sculpture, music, slideshow, and other things that Dae Dong Manor in Flushing offered us, they also provided a woman to help us out. She was great... a little too great. She was the-hand-that-rocks-the-cradle-great. She would barely let us touch Colin. I get that she was trying to give us a chance to do other things, but still...
Colin received so many wonderful presents. His top three favorites were #3 Little People's Noah's Ark box #2 Chicco Ride-on box #1 Little People's Firetruck Ride-on box He received cute clothes too. His favorite outfit? The one that came in the box... Next time we have a party just keep the toys for your own kids and give us the box. It's funny how the parents want their kids to have the best, but the kids really don't care at all. When Colin gets new toys he gets very excited. He loves to play with the wrappers, boxes, lids, etc. Like right now... he's playing with a postcard. And last week and the restaurant, I gave him a plastic bag... what?! I was there to supervise.

potty training How did you potty train? How old was your baby? How long did it take? If I get Colin on the potty he will do his business but how long do I have to keep him in a diaper once he sort of gets it? I can see him reaching for ithe potty when he has to go (although sometimes he just wants to play with it)... but since he's so young he can't tell me with words. Do I teach him signs? Do I just stick him in panz and hope that he'll get the clue after the first few messes? Any suggestions?
